I received various requests to do an IMO on Sooyoungsters. I was debating A LOT about this. Initially, I didn’t want to; mainly because I feel that the “Sooyoungsters Topic” applies to all fandoms. Having said this, there is a picture below that persuaded me to do this. Also note, that I having nothing against Sooyoung nor her fans.
Lately, there has been a lot of comments and hype saying “Sooyoungsters are the worst fandom”. And, for me, I hate seeing it.
I, myself, am not a Sooyoungster. However, I don’t have ANY negative feelings towards her. I always found that every fandom has both good and - for lack of a better word - bad fans.
Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but notice that people seem to ALWAYS notice the more harsh Sooyoungsters. It’s really quite sad because people automatically assume that all Sooyoungsters are rude, mean, etc.
That being said, there are a few VERY harsh fans out there. Not just Sooyoungsters, but in every fandom.
Today, I was scrolling through my feed and saw a confession (posted by about-snsd). Sometimes, I’ll click the notes on the post to see what peoples’ reactions are. I clicked on the notes for this one. Please note that this is not my confession.
This… is why I feel so bad for Sooyoungsters. The fandom has these harsh, overprotective fans that really need to calm down.
What really got my attention (and I assume most of the readers’) was the 2nd note. “FUCK U MAN FUCK U. SOOYOUNG HARDLY GET AN ATTENTION. STOP BEING A YOONA BIAS U WHORE.”
I can point out a few things wrong with what this person said.
1. “FUCK U” - I understand that people want to protect their bias. I’m like that, too. But to swear at them is a little much.
2. “STOP BEING A YOONA BIAS” - This person literally told the confessor “stop having a bias.”, which, is completely wrong. The person is entitled to pick whoever they want to like. You cannot tell that person to “stop having a bias”
3. “U WHORE” - THIS is what got to me. This fan, without seeing or knowing the confessor has called them, so easily, a whore. Calling someone a whore for having an opinion is downright horrible.
Before this post gets too long, I’ll close off with the fact that some fans really need to calm down. As stated in the title, this is also for other fandoms, I simply directed it towards Sooyoungsters because a lot of them get too much unnecessary hate for few bad fans.
Finally, I really feel so bad for Sooyoungsters.

The argument of “you’re not a true SONE” has been going on for a while. The argument claims that to be a true SONE, one must love every member of Girls’ Generation.
As stated in the title (IMO), this is merely my opinion on the topic at hand.
This is how I see it: Girls’ Generation is made up of 9 members. Being a SONE means you like/love Girls’ Generation. Now, the main thing to remember, is that those 9 girls are what make up Girls’ Generation. By saying you love the band, you are saying you love Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Yuri, Hyoyeon,Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun.
This being said, I feel that being a SONE is about respecting each member. One does not necessarily have to love each member; however, I don’t think it is possible to say “I hate _____ member” and yet, call yourself a SONE. As said earlier, the girls ARE Girls’ Generation. So, by saying you love the band, you are saying you love the members of said band.
Again, this is simply my view on the argument that has gone on lately; and I feel that this applies to all fandoms.
